DIAGNOSIS OF IRON DEFICIENCY ANEMIA IN THAI FEMALE ADOLESCENTS USING RETICULOCYTE HEMOGLOBIN EQUIVALENT

نویسندگان

چکیده

Background: Female adolescents aged 10 to 19 years are at remarkable risk of iron deficiency anemia (IDA). Reticulocyte hemoglobin equivalent (Ret-He) is an initial indicator incorporation in red blood cells (RBCs) and reflects the functional availability RBCs.
Objective: This study aimed assess diagnostic performance Ret-He identify IDA determine a specific cut-off value for Thai female adolescents.
Methods: Blood samples 191 adolescents, ages ranging from 12 18 years, were included. Patients underwent complete count, reticulocyte Ret-He, serum (SI), total iron-binding capacity (TIBC), transferrin saturation (TSAT). The correlation with other parameters evaluated.
Results: Among patients, 89 102 defined as non-IDA groups. group was significantly lower than that (p<0.001). Strong positive correlations observed between RBC indices SI TSAT A ≤27.0 pg could distinguish sensitivity 91.2% specificity 100.0% (area under curve, AUC 0.99, 95% CI: 0.98-0.99; p<0.001).
Conclusion: confirmed cost-effective parameter representing advantage over traditional markers. suitable distinguishing excellent among adolescents.

Diagnosis of Iron Deficiency and Iron Deficiency Anemia with Reticulocyte Hemoglobin Content among Children Aged 6-18 Years

Background: Iron deficiency (ID) is the most common micronutrient deficiency in the world. If left untreated, ID will lead to iron deficiency anemia (IDA) and other irreversible consequences. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommended reticulocyte hemoglobin content (Ret-He) as an alternative laboratory examination to screen and detect ID. We aimed to compare Ret-He with other laboratory pa...

Clinical Significance of Reticulocyte Hemoglobin Content in the Diagnosis of Iron Deficiency Anemia

OBJECTIVE The aim of this study was to evaluate the clinical significance of reticulocyte hemoglobin content (CHr) in the diagnosis of iron deficiency anemia (IDA) and to compare it with other conventional iron parameters. MATERIALS AND METHODS A total of 32 female patients with IDA (serum hemoglobin <120 g/L and serum ferritin <20 ng/ mL) and 18 female patients with iron deficiency (serum he...

Screening healthy infants for iron deficiency using reticulocyte hemoglobin content.

CONTEXT Current clinical practice relies on hemoglobin to detect iron deficiency, which misses infants not yet anemic and places them at higher risk for neurocognitive impairment. Reticulocyte hemoglobin content (CHr) has never been compared with hemoglobin for screening healthy infants. OBJECTIVES To evaluate CHr for detecting iron deficiency without anemia in healthy 9- to 12-month-old infa...

Evaluation of the Efficiency of the Reticulocyte Hemoglobin Content on Diagnosis for Iron Deficiency Anemia in Chinese Adults

Our aim was to evaluate the cut-off value and efficiency of using reticulocyte hemoglobin content as a marker to diagnose iron deficiency anemia in Chinese adults. 140 adults who needed bone marrow aspiration for diagnosis at the hematology department of the Peking Union Medical College Hospital were enrolled according to the inclusive and exclusive criteria. Venous blood samples were collected...
